Linear Income Versus Residual Income

Most of us have heard the term "Residual Income" but what about "Linear Income" what is it and what is the difference between the two? Let's say that you know a world famous heart surgeon. This man performs 2 transplants a day, every day, 51 weeks a year. He takes a week off to take his family to someplace warm in the middle of December. His workday starts at 7 in the morning and ends at 6 at night. He gets paid for the work he does in those 11 hours. What about the other 13 hours? Do you think he is getting paid while he is at dinner? sleeping? This is Linear Income, he stops getting paid when his work stops.

Lets look at Residual income. We have all heard of Michael Jackson. He puts out a song and gets paid every time that song is played on the radio. He may be sleeping or on vacation but he will still get paid everytime someone buys one of his records.

Residual Income is the main reason people get involved in Network Marketing. You make a presentation one time and you get paid month after month, week after week on the products your downline buys. Imagine taking a 2 month vacation and coming home to find 8 checks in your mailbox. Which do you think your choice would be? a 2 month vacation and getting paid the whole time? or a 2 month vacation and not getting paid a penny.

The Truth About Network Marketing

So what is Network Marketing? It is nothing more than a product distribution system. It is a way of getting a product from the company to the end consumer. Coca-cola does it, Sears does it, company XYZ does it, so why do we find it so hard to tell people about our business? When we go to talk to a prospect about our opportunity, why do our hands start to sweat, why does our heart start pounding in our chest, our mouth gets dry, why does all this happen? As human beings, we take everything personally. The prospect says no and our minds automatically say "where did I go wrong" If it makes you feel any better you didn't go wrong, your prospect simply made a business decision. The prospect didn't say no because they don't like you, they said no because the timing was not right for them. Remember one thing, a prospect will join with you when it is right for them not when it is right for you.

The Snowball Effect

What exactly is the snowball effect? Let me give you an example.
Everyday you send out 100 e-mails for your business, one day you decide to add 5 more emails. This is the start of your snowball. Five e-mails is not much but at the end of the week you have reached 35 more contacts and your snowball is at the top of the hill. It is just a little bigger but has not gathered much speed. Four weeks later your 5 extra emails per day has now reached 140 extra contacts. Your snowball is getting bigger and gathering more speed. At the end of the year you have sent out an extra 1820 emails, your snowball is huge and traveling so fast there is no way to stop it. How many of these 1820 contacts do you think will join your business? 10? 20? 30? more? This is the result of sending out a measly 5 extra e-mails, 10 minutes of your time.
